At the start of each new season we get many new applicants whowould like to join our group. We offer training for all new applicants to become umpires. Our clinics that are scheduled consist of both classroom and field sessions. We average between 10-20 new applicants each new season. After Marple Newtown Recreation took over administration of the EDCO League in 2019, the name change was implemented for the 2020 campaign. In keeping with EDCO's 75-year tradition, Mid-County League's the two divisions are known as Junior EDCO (ages 19 and under) and Senior EDCO (no age limit). "The new name of the league came from the original name of the Blue Route, which was the Mid-County Expressway, which dates back to the 1930s," McDevitt said. "The teams are no longer tucked into the southeast corner of the county and cover all four corners of the county and then some. The Blue Route has opened the county and made it easy (not all the time) to travel from Haverford to Ridley and play a baseball game.  Our numbers are gaining strength and we keep the cost to play baseball exceptionally low thanks to the efforts of MN Recreation and Frank Gorgone and the Tri-County Umpire Group." The Mid-County League is an independently managed organization. Main Line Legion, on the other hand, must adhere to decisions made by the Pennsylvania department of American Legion, which announced in April the cancellation of the summer leagues and tournaments.
